Getting it right at a young age

 

Angler Robert Ryan Dsouza Born In the beautiful state of Goa, In the sleepy village of Mandrem which lies in the Northern coastline of the state, Ryan was just 6 years old when he was introduced to the lovely world of fishing by his Father. Ryan would accompany his father on his backyard fishing trips where he would gladly hold the catch bag and put in the fish that were caught by his dad with all the excitement he had. His Father, an expert angler, mainly caught Mullets and Pearl Spots and thus Ryan embarked on his Fishing Journey targeting these very Fish varieties. Back then using a simple bamboo pole as a fishing rod and a nylon fishing line tied to it with a small hook which could be bought at the local shop as the crude fishing kit, Ryan’s Father used small dead shrimp or Sardines as bait. Ryan started off his journey much with the same setup when he first went solo.

Then one day while out with his father, Ryan happened to bump into his Father's friend (Angler Gajanand Kauthankar or Gaja) who he noticed casting out a piece of plastic that resembled an exotic-looking fish and to top it, it had a couple of shiny hooks dangling below it. Ryan did not understand what this was, but after a few casts, saw Angler Gajanand snare a snapper much to his amusement, and Ryan was full of fascination and curiosity on seeing this. And this was Ryan’s first initiation into world of lure fishing. Ryan slowly picked up the nitty-gritties and the more complex technique of lure fishing helped along the way by Angler Gajanand himself . With Angler Gajanand, Ryan learnt to make the choice of lures based on the time of the day and the transparency of water. Angler Gajanand also thought Ryan various casting skills and many other techniques and tips to go along. And that was how Ryan took a liking for lure fishing.

 

Mastering the Art of Fishing

 

Now Ryan has gained quite a bit of experience in the art of Angling. Ryan now sets out with the motive of targeting most of the predatory fish with a standard rod and loves to hear the sound of the screaming drag like any other angler worth their salt. Ryan has found much success and satisfaction with artificial lure fishing. Through the years he has learned a lot of ways to catch all sorts of Fish right from mullets and other small fish to Trevallies and Red Snappers. Ryan has caught different varieties of fish using varied models of bait on a rod and reel setup. Apart from this, Ryan also likes fishing with handlines with dead bait like in the good old days. Ryan also loves catching crabs on the beach by just using a simple piece of fishing net that is set on a metal ring (Locally called Koble).  He also has snagged crabs in the rivulet by just using some fishing line, that’s all.

As witty as he is in his conversations, Ryan also has his own YouTube channel and now and then comes up with witty short videos that are based mostly around fishing and school life.
