ANGLER GAJANAND KHAUTANKAR
Rocking it on the Rocks
Angler Gajanand Khautankar, a Physical Education teacher by profession, has been an avid angler for more than 10 years now. Living in the quaint village of Mandrem in North –Goa, he picked up angling when he was a small boy, when his uncle took him to his first fishing jaunt a bagful of shrimp in hand and a bamboo pole rested on his shoulders. It was on this outing that the then-young Gaja (as he is affectionately called) got such a jerk from a fish that he let go off the pole in fright and his uncle has to walk into the small river to retrieve it. A laughable school day story as it may sound today, this left a big impression on him leading him into the beautiful sporthad of Angling.
From then on there has been no looking back. Moving on to coastal spinning and then to boat fishing, the day Gaja happens to get back home a bit early from work, up he grabs his fishing Rod and lure box, and off he sets to the nearest spot to cast out a few lures in anticipation of this next big catch.
Angler Gajanand Khautankar says he has learned to pick the right lure patterns for targeting specific fish depending on the time of the year and he unabashedly admits that he must have purchased more than 600 to 700 lures as yet in his lifetime.
For now, Gaja uses the following Gear
